Twitter has grown to immense proportions over a short period of time. In that growth, this social experiment has yielded some very interesting outcomes. Everything from marriage proposals to FBI arrests have come from short, 140 character or less messages. So what are the most impressive of them all?

"On the floor of the house of reps. Waiting to hear Barack. Place is on fire." - Rep. Dennis Rehberg (R-MT)

"Aggie basketball game is about to start on espn2 for those of you that aren't going to bother watching pelosi smirk for the next hour," ...shortly thereafter... "Disregard that last Tweet from a staffer." - Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX)

"The first big divide: he thanks Congress for recovery act. D's cheer, R's silent. Obama tries to get past this, doesn't dwell on division," - Rep. Earl Blumenauer (D-OR)

"Sitting at the State of the Union listening to words like responsibility and accountability just days after a reckless spending spree." - Rep. Zach Wamp (R-TN)

Twitter account hacks have yielded some interesting tweets. In January 2009, it started with the Fox News account being hacked followed by a tweet:

"Breaking: Bill O Riley is gay"

This coordinated attack hit the pages of Britney Spears, Et Tu, Huffington Post, and Rick Sanchez from CNN, who didn't make it into work that day because he was "high on crack right now".

From TechCrunch: "33 accounts were hacked after Twitter’s internal admin tools were compromised".

    From Michael van Poppel:

Wow….. a woman was raped at a Washington park and hundreds saw it but did nothing?!?

@glownz I can’t imagine someone not trying anything, out of hundreds even.. I could never just watch something like that happen

@maggieglazer Well, I could never just stand there and watch if someone like that happened…

Tried to see if anyone tweeted about the rape, since there were hundreds of people.. but I can’t find anything.

    RT @nilicule: @mpoppel it’s called the Bystander Effect, http://bit.ly/JFcxh - and it’s absolutely horrible

“the greater the number of bystanders, the less likely it is that any one of them will help.”

Oprah launched Twitter into another stratosphere by breaking the service out to the public on her show. Here's her first tweet.

"HI TWITTERS. THANK YOU FOR A WARM WELCOME. FEELING REALLY 21st CENTURY."

This was followed up shortly thereafter by Shaq with an @reply that dissed O for her caps. She then began typing normally.
